The city of Chandler was founded by Arizona’s first veterinary surgeon Dr. Alexander John Chandler in 1912. The founding of the Williams Air Force Base in 1941 triggered the first population surge. In recent years, Chandler has transformed into a high tech city with the help of tech manufacturer Intel. The growing industries in Chandler has drawn other big names like Ebay, Verizon, General Motors, Bank of America, and Microchip.
Exponential job growth starting the in the 1990’s has led to a housing development boom throughout the 64.90 square miles of Chandler. Some of the most recent developments include; the Artesian Ranch community by Maracay Homes offering energy efficient single-level homes, the Belmont Estates located in Chandler’s greenbelt, and Finisterra a gated community by Ryland Homes.
Located in the Southeast Valley, Chandler has everything and more to offer its ever growing population. Chandler has several public schools, private faith based schools, post-secondary schools, charter schools and trade schools. When it comes to shopping the Chandler Fashion Center which opened in 2001 is the second largest mall in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Chandler Center of Arts, The Chandler Museum, and Arizona Railways Museum play important cultural roles in this thriving city.
Chandler has been nationally recognized for its focus on parks and recreational amenities. There are over 60 park and recreational facilities which include; Tumbleweed Park, Koli Equestrian Center, and Desert Breeze Railroad, along with beautiful golf courses like Ocotillo Golf Club and Whirlwind Golf Course. Chandler also has its own airport, the Chandler Municipal Airport (two-runways) however most residents use the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. As of today, Chandler has reached it city limits but continues to grow because of the expanse of opportunities, vibrate culture, and high quality of life.
